Coaxial light sources are a massive upgrade for a typical microscope, and while these can be expensive to buy, they are very cheap to make, this one cost less than $5. I couldn't find an identical beam splitting plate on AliExpress, the one I used measures 20 x 14 x 1 mm. https://www.aliexpress.com
